BCC & BenXcel safe from the recent “HeartBleed”

Recently, many of our clients may have heard of a flaw in OpenSSL (which is software that is used widely to encrypt communications over the internet) called “HeartBleed,” which can allow hackers to gain information that could allow them to decrypt internet traffic, exposing PHI, userids, passwords, etc.

We have examined all of our externally exposed systems, including BenXcel, our email server (including OWA), our secure FTP server, and our Citrix server, and none of them are vulnerable to HeartBleed.  In addition to checking the software on the systems, we have also run vulnerability scans with our Qualys service, as well as using several tools that specifically check for HeartBleed.  The result… none of our servers are vulnerable.

Please be assured that none of our clients are nor have they been vulnerable to HeartBleed.

Easter Reminder 2014

The “Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014” passed on 4/1/14

The “Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014” passed on 4/1/14. Section 213 of this bill eliminates the $2,000/$4,000 deductible on small group health plans. This provides relief for self-funded plans underneath a high-deductible fully-insured plan. This means that the $2,000/$4,000 annual deductible limit placed upon fully insured small group health plans has been eliminated effective retroactively to the enactment of PPACA (March 23, 2010).
